The Rev. Joseph Peters-MathewsThe Rev. Joseph Peters-Mathews (vicar@stjoseph-stjohn.org) started as the vicar of St. Joseph-St. John on Sunday, September 17, 2017. The vicar is the head priest of a smaller Episcopal Church. Father Joseph has lived in the Seattle area since January of 2017, and moved with his husband Brandon and their two cats Stanton and Maggie.
Father Joseph was ordained priest in 2012 at Grace Cathedral in San Francisco as a priest in the Diocese of California. He attended General Theological Seminary in New York City, and was sponsored for ordination (and ordained deacon) by the Diocese of the Central Gulf Coast. |
While in seminary he was an intern at Trinity, Wall Street, and served on the staff of Presiding Bishop Katharine Jefferts Schori. He also spent a summer as an intern at the American Cathedral in Paris.
Following seminary, Father Joseph moved to the San Francisco Bay Area for Brandon to pursue a fellowship in Sleep Medicine. Father Joseph was called to be the Working Group Head for Communications for the Diocese of California. In that work he oversaw internal and external communications for the bishop's staff, as well as consulting with congregations on their websites and social media presences. He has extensive experience engaging the Church and Social Media.
